Gunawan Jusuf is a graduate of Universitas Gadjah Mada. This university was founded only three years after the country achieved independence. The university was actually founded in 1949, but the first lectures were delivered there earlier, in 1946. Today, it is one of the largest public research universities in the country. Universitas Gadjah Mada is located in Yogyakarta, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and is amongst the oldest tertiary institutions in the nation.

Universitas Gadjah Mada can count many accomplished persons amongst its alumni. This includes sitting Governors, Attorney Generals, award-winning poets, well known novelists, and businessman of all sorts. With sixty-eight undergraduate programs, twenty-three diploma programs, and sixty-seven graduate programs, it is evident that Universitas Gadjah Mada is committed to academic accomplishment. The university was originally named after a local historical figure of importance and retains that name today.
